NFRC Competent Person Scheme

With Government approval, the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) has implemented a Competent Person Scheme for roofing work and Telnik Roofing Ltd are proud to announce we have been accepted into this scheme.

Telnik Roofing Ltd are members of the Government approved Competent Person Scheme as implemented by the National Federation of Roofing Contractors. The NFRC was given permission to run the Competent Person Scheme by the Government for any and all roofing work, which will help towards improving the standards of the roofing industry and help to reduce costs on statutory inspections.

This means that roofing companies that carry the logo of the NFRC Competent Person scheme have been approved as members of the scheme and are fully registered members and are now able to self certify for building regulations on most refurbishment work. Self-certification means that Competent Person Scheme members can register their roof refurbishment work and then carry it out without waiting for an inspector from the Building Control department of their Local Authority.

At the same time the building owner receives their Building Regulations Compliance Certificate, which includes an insurance-backed guarantee for works up to £50k in value, Competent Person Scheme notifies the Building Control department of their Local Authority electronically; this means that the building owner doesn’t need to notify the Local Authority themselves.

However, being members of the scheme also means that members can confidentially report any roof refurbishment works they believe are being carried out which are not in compliance with the Building Regulations to NFRC Competent Person Scheme, who will then report the works to the Building Control department of the relevant Local Authority..

In addition, because Competent Person Scheme members are inspected before they join and regularly inspected annually, they can self-certify their works as compliant with the Building Regulations so that they do not need to wait for inspections from the Local Authority for each job they carry out.
